DATE: Friday 27th May 2011
EVENT TITLE: IMS GRAND FINALE FESTIVAL
TIMES: 18:00 – Midnight
PRICES: From €25 (IMS delegates have free entry)
CAPACITY: 2,500 people

The IMS Grand Finale Festival returns to the iconic Dalt Vila for a third year as they look to host their biggest event yet. In the heart of Ibiza Town and looking over the Balearic sea, the very special UNESCO world heritage site in Dalt Vila is without doubt one of the finest open-air locations in the world – and this is the only contemporary music event they allow to take place each year.

Building on last year’s unforgettable show that featured performances from Buraka Som Sistema, Mark Ronson, Sasha, Skream, David E Sugar and IMS co-founder Pete Tong, the IMS team have now confirmed the lineup for 2011 and once again it’s tantalizing prospect.

In the year that Pete Tong celebrates 20 years on BBC Radio 1, the co-founder of IMS will once again be spearheading the IMS celebrations and joined by none more exciting than the mighty 2manydjs – still regarded by many as the greatest DJs on the planet. Having re-written the rulebook of DJ mixes, pioneered the art of the mash-up remix, and conquered the world as their 4-piece band Soulwax, there’s little the two Belgian brothers haven’t achieved. They will be the headline act this year and it promises to be one hell of a show!

Not stopping there we also have Ibizan favourite – and huge techno star in his own right – Dubfire, who will be making his IMS debut. A man who originally touched down on the island in the early 90’s as one half of the Grammy award winning duo Deep Dish, but in more recent years has developed a solo career that has taken him to even dizzier heights. Without doubt he will be a huge draw to any techno fans that are in Ibiza that week. Rounding off the line-up we have IMS favourite Jason Bentley, the host of America’s most influential radio show (Morning Becomes Eclectic on KCRW) and the winner of the first ever IMS Pioneer award. A key name in the U.S. dance scene for many years, he is also the man behind countless movie soundtracks, including all three Matrix films, and is credited for orchestrating the partnership between Daft Punk and the recent Tron movie – he’s also an amazing DJ!

The headline live act on the night will be New York’s finest, Hercules & Love Affair, who recently released their ‘Blue Songs’ album to the delight of both the media and their ever-growing fan base. Managing to channel the spirit (and sounds) of the famous Paradise Garage, they combine both classic NYC disco attitude with modern house and electronic pop at it’s very best.

They will be joined on the bill by The Japanese Popstars, who will be performing their hybrid style of live electro to an Ibizan crowd that has already shown them a lot of love from their previous shows at Wonderland and Amnesia. Their Positiva/EMI album contains some incredible collaborations, expect special guests to be joining them on stage at IMS!

International Music Summit 2011, Ibiza

January 25th, 2011

“IMS is electronica’s equivalent to the TED conference – a hub for the world’s leaders and thinkers in dance music”

International Music Summit 2011, Ibiza IMS returns to Ibiza Gran Hotel and Dalt Vila in Ibiza for the fourth year, building on the great success of 2010’s summit that confirmed its role as the leading event for professionals in electronic music.

Created by a team including BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong, IMS is a unique annual experience in Ibiza, combining an innovating and refreshing business-focused daytime schedule set across three days and the IMS Grand Finale Festival at the stunning at the Dalt Vila UNESCO World Heritage site.

IMS 2011 have announced the first speakers for this year’s International Music Summit (IMS: 2011). The scene is set for what promises to be the most exciting, informative and inspirational IMS yet. With Ibiza’s leading 5* Ibiza Gran Hotel once again the location for the daytime conferences, the IMS have upped the ante in the evenings with an expanded Dalt Vila experience and a first ever IMS Opening Party at Pacha on Wednesday 25th May. With last year’s amazing open-air Dalt Villa event including DJ sets from Pete Tong, Mark Ronson, Sasha, Skream and a live set from Buraka Som Sistema and David E Sugar, you can expect even more music and mayhem than before.

As well as Ibiza, IMS will also be taking to America for the first time as Ben Turner, co-director of IMS explains:IMS is moving up a gear with a special event in Miami to amplify our work to the North American market, plus a whole host of additions and more parties in Ibiza to help inject a little mayhem to the proceedings. IMS will not veer away from the ‘Back to Business‘ ethos but electronic music has never been more prosperous and we want to showcase the amazing innovations in music, technology and promoters and festivals from around the world.”

KEY CONFIRMED GUESTS FOR THE DAYTIME IMS: 2011 SCHEDULE:

imsIMS is honoured to have Daniel Miller from Mute Records as their Keynote Interview in 2011. The man who signed Depeche Mode, Moby and Richie Hawtin (amongst many others) has been invited to the IMS every year so far and now that he’s become and independent again, it feels like the right time for his story. In another major coup for IMS, it will be Richie Hawtin who interviews Miller.

Richie will also feature at IMS discussing his plans to make dance music greener, in conjunction with Alison Tickell from Julie’s Bicycle plus leading electronic music agents.

In addition, in the year that dance music has exploded onto daytime radio all over the world, the BBC’s ‘Head of Music’ George Ergatoudis will face the industry about his decisions, which arguably make him the most influential man in worldwide radio for electronic music labels. As well as speaking, Ergatoudis has agreed to a “speed pitching session” where delegates will have four minutes to sell their music to him.

IMS has also invited one of the world’s most powerful and most highly respected music agents to speak. David Levy was possibly the first ever DJ agent, and now with William Morris Endeavor, the company have a huge market share within the genre worldwide. Levy is uncompromising and has a vision and an overview for the global scene like few others. Elsewhere, the inspirational character that is Emmanuel du Buretel, the head of Because Music in France, will talk about his business interests that span way beyond simply releasing music. Emmanuel is one of the most respected label bosses in the world, and from France has a special approach to music and artist relations.

imsOther key speakers are Amy Thomson from CMO Management who has taken the Swedish House Mafia from Sweden to the top of the charts worldwide as both manager and agent. Also Jho Oakley who has taken drum n bass producers Chase & Status and Pendulum from underground clubs to writing records for the likes of Rihanna and beyond. Also included are speakers from Nokia and National Geographic, who have a new approach to music.

With those guests and so many more currently being confirmed for IMS: 2011, it’s safe to say that alongside all the evening entertainment, the IMS is still fully focused on setting the agenda for the future of the industry. It’s time to get Back to Business.

Pete Tong states: “We are very proud to announce the first stage of our conference line up for the 4th International Music Summit in Ibiza. Once again we are privileged to welcome an incredibly diverse array of brilliant guest speakers including the legendary founder of Mute Records Daniel Miller, Jho Oakley manager of Chase & Statusand George Ergatoudis head of music at BBC Radio 1. I’m sure this event will continue to make a major contribution to the debate on the future of electronic music entertainment around the world.”

International Music Summit 2010 – first line-up

February 8th, 2010

Leading electronic artists and representatives of some of the world’s biggest brands are among those confirmed to speak at the third International Music Summit with superstar producer, DJ and artist Mark Ronson confirmed to appear in the headline keynote interview.

Ibiza Gran Hotel, May 26-28

  • Mark Ronson To Star In Keynote Interview
  • David Guetta, Luciano, Annie Mac, Erick Morillo, DJ Skream, Pedro Winter / Busy P, Arthur Baker, Robin Millar To Speak
  • Alexandra Patsavas appears at her first dance music event
  • Speakers from Sprite, Coca-Cola Group, Ministry of Sound, BBC Radio 1, KCRW, MP7, Beatport, Resident Advisor

imsCommandeering the entire five-star Ibiza Gran Hotel, IMS creates an intimate atmosphere where artists such as the 2010 Grammy Award winner David Guetta can meet with notable business leaders such as Frank Mertens, Global Director of Creative Development, Sprite / Coca-Cola Group, and Konrad Von Loeheysen, the owner of Ministry of Sound Germany / Motor FM. In her first dance music event appearance, the world-renowned music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas will feature in a one-on-one interview about her work and company Chop Shop. Patsavas is supervisor on TV shows The OC, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, Mad Men and Gossip Girl plus the Twilight film.

Guetta appears on a panel titled Big Dog DJs: F*** You We’re Famous, named after his legendary weekly party in Ibiza, alongside Erick Morillo from Subliminal Records, Luciano – the underground star and boss of label Cadenza Records. IMS founder and BBC Radio 1 DJ Pete Tong will moderate.

In Meet The Future, BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac, who recently swapped shows with Tong to open the countdown to the weekend, will outline her vision for electronic music alongside the likes of Pedro Winter aka Busy P, former manager of Daft Punk and boss of Ed Banger Records. Joining them is DJ Skream, remixer of the moment.

imsIn another panel USA Today: Boom Boom Now!, IMS will hear from both those behind dance music’s recent explosion in the states, including Patrick Moxey from Ultra Records, Eddie Dean from Pacha New York and original American dance architect Arthur Baker, and also from dissenting voices like Tommie Sunshine who recently stated: “There is NO room for dance music in America. It will never happen. Not real dance music, anyway”. The panel will be moderated by KCRW music director and presenter Jason Bentley, who last year received the first IMS Pioneer Award.

In Ibiza United, IMS will bring together the key players behind Amnesia, Eden, Es Paradis, Pacha, Privilege and Space on one panel for just the second time ever. This panel will be moderated by Juan Suarez, one of the chiefs of the powerful local newspaper, Diario De Ibiza.

IMS will hear from legendary producer Robin Millar, responsible for 44 number one hits, who will talk about why just one month after he retired from production duties, electronic music has re-inspired him, and see the return of 19-year old teen promoter Callum Negus Fancey from Let’s Go Crazy after stealing the show last year by stating “Who is Paul Oakenfold? My audience have never heard of him.”

In addition, IMS has teamed up with leading consumer portal Resident Advisor, whose audience will select a topic and speakers for the Presidential Debate format which debuted in 2009 to great acclaim.

Said Pete Tong: “It is with great pride that we announce some of the incredible
talent already confirmed to be involved in our third International Music Summit in Ibiza. For 2010 we continue to push for the most vital and engaging debates on all the key topics of the day involving the biggest players from every field.

imsCommented Ben Turner, a founder and partner in the IMS, states: “IMS was never about the artists, more the people behind the curtain who help guide the gifted. In 2010, we’ve been overwhelmed by approaches from artists to be involved in some way. It’s a great testament to our first two years. Watch out for more special names to follow…

Following 2009’s successful experiment The IMS Vote will return, a session where the audience make decisions on the future of the genre. Indeed, last year, 69% of those present agreed that IMS had ‘made them question how their companies work’. In 2010, this is taken one step further then Ted Cohen from TAG Strategic will moderate a one-hour session where the delegates are the audience, and the agenda is not set. Cohen himself was so inspired by IMS:09 that he invited last year’s Key Note speaker Richie Hawtin to attend MidemNet after hearing his radical assessment of future music.

Finally reprising his 2009 role, electronic pioneer Tom Middleton will blog to the Beatport community what is being debated, who will in turn feedback and pose questions to the speakers.

Once again the IMS Grand Finale will take place at the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Dalt Vila on Friday May 28. Last year, Basement Jaxx headlined with Pete Tong, Rob da Bank and Filthy Dukes in support. IMS has been with requests from artists to perform at this landmark event. The headline acts will be announced imminently. The event is free to attend for all delegates of the IMS, with some 2,000 tickets available to the public. Tickets are available now from www.internationalmusicsummit.com

International Music Summit – The Club panel audio from 2008

January 2nd, 2010

ims, international music summit, ibizaTo our knowledge this is the only recording that’s been made available of the infamous and historic clubs panel at the International Music Summit in Ibiza 2008 – thanks go to the IMS for allowing us to release it.

This was the first time that all of the clubs (except El Divino) had sat down in public with a member of the Balearic Government – Paco Medina.

It was easily the highlight of the 2008 music conference.

December 25th, 2008
