June 12th, 2014

The Gumball 3000 Rally arrived in Ibiza yesterday and so we wandered down to the port in San Antonio to see all 125 cars arrive on the ferry from Denia. It was suitably noisy and lots of very nice and obviously very expensive cars.

Eihi Records launch party at Delanos

June 7th, 2014

Eihi Records had a launch party at Delanos on the beach in Playa D’en Bossa on Friday June 6th. Starting at 5pm on what was the hottest day of the year so far, being on the beach was a perfect setting to catch the last of the day’s sun, whilst sipping a cold beer and listening to some great house music.

The party was presented by label owner, Edu Garris, and starred special guest DJ Justin Harris, with live performances from Nestor Morales on percussion and Guaybo! Sax on saxophone.

Ibiza based record label Eihi Records, created by DJ and producer Edu Garris, is a place for musicians and artists with long and consistent musical careers within the electronic music scene and big producers of quality House music. Artists on the label include Eddies Matos, Brett Johnson, Jay Tripwire, Justin Harris, Jamie Anderson, Denmarkus Lewis and Deephope – all of whom have worked hard to take House music to where it is today.

The label is named in homage to the god Ihi, whom according to Egyptian mythology is the child god of the joy of music – mirroring the ethos of Eihi Records. The brand philosophy of Eihi Records is simple and honest and its values are transparent – to produce high quality and creative music with an excellent sound.

Founder of the label, Edu Garris, has a gift for blending many musical styles with an excellent technique, refined after more than 15 years of experience and full of good taste – all inspired by quality musicians and producers.

Working only with vinyl, the most authentic and exclusive way of recording and playing music, EiHi Records carefully select each individual record release, with a heavy emphasis on quality rather than quantity. Thus, Eihi Records represent refinement, elegance, maturity and independence, with each vinyl record release packaged in artwork conceptually designed with the music it contains in mind.

Edu Garris says:

EIHI Recordings’ philosophy is our brand, which is simple and honest. It was created as a ‘place’ for big producers of House music. These are people that have worked hard to take House where it is today. EIHI’s values are transparent and include quality, musicality, artistic creativity and of course, an excellent sound. EIHI’s recordings will only work with vinyl, like the old times, since it is the most authentic and exclusive way of recording and playing music. EIHI carefully selects each record release focusing on quality rather than quantity, so it represents refinement, transparency and independence. This is a brand for those that enjoy all the varieties of House music, because House itself is a feeling, a world of its own making. Each vinyl record is conceptually designed with music contained in it.

The first two releases are:

  • BEYOND THE DEEP, by Denmarkus Lewis.
BEYOND THE DEEP, comes from the house icon Denmarkus Lewis and features two awesome tracks ‘Stokin The Vine’ and ‘Sliding In Deep’. American dance producer, Denmark Lewis, has released over 100 singles and countless remixes over the last 12 years. It is a well-known fact that he has the ability to change sound to fit within a multitude of genres from the deepest of deep house to the most electrifying sounds of Techno.
  • DEEPHOPE, by David Garcia a.k.a. Deephope.
DEEPHOPE features two breathtaking tracks ´Love Loft´ and ´Day Nursery´. Deephope is a Music Producer and DJ who has always been faithful to the Deep House scene, producing music that is rich in warm sound, whilst deep and full of feelings.

Eihi Records have also confirmed 3 additional party dates this year at Delanos, on 11th July, 13th August and 5th September, all featuring special guests. More information will follow on the website in due course.

Superyachts, Supercars and Powerboats – Ibiza Gears Up for Summer of Excess

March 31st, 2014

With the Gumball 3000 Rally, Class 1 World Powerboat Championship and an eight million euro overhaul of the Port of Ibiza planned for summer 2014, Ibiza is in for a spell under the luxury spotlight.

First to cruise into town is Gumball 3000’s 16th annual car rally.  Starting in Miami on 4 June and concluding one week later in Ibiza on 11 June, the adrenalin-fuelled road trip will cross five countries in two continents enjoying parties, concerts and VIP hospitality along the way.  Created by ex-racing driver, designer and entrepreneur, Maximillion Cooper, the Gumball 3000 now attracts live crowds of over a million people.  Previous petrol head participants have included Dannii Minogue, Jodie Kidd, Danny Dyer, Rachel Hunter, Caprice and Jamiroquai’s Jay Kay.  Ibiza is an obvious choice for the perfect hedonistic closing party.

Next up is a switch from the open road to the high seas and the Class 1 World Powerboat Championship which was established back in 1964.  Ibiza is a new and exciting venue for this sport, joining Bulgaria, Italy and the UAE for the 2014 season, and will host its three-day Grand Prix weekend from 5 to 7 September.  Regarded as the pinnacle of international offshore powerboat racing, a premium sporting brand to match its Moto GP and Formula 1 cousins, the twin-engined raceboats of Class 1 can reach speeds in excess of 250km/h and the ‘travelling circus’ will certainly make its presence felt when it comes into town towards the end of the summer.

Just one week after the powerboats leave the island, work will begin on the Port of Ibiza’s eight million euro facelift.  The project will demolish the old disused ferry terminal and in its place create a large 5,000m² public square, a 400m² building housing storage, changing rooms, offices, a tourist office and public bathrooms, plus a 200m² street-level terrace.  Road traffic and parking spaces will be restricted to the essential minimum and a cycle path will connect the Port to the City.  Work will commence on 15 September and finish in May 2015, ready for the next summer season.  Chairman of the Balearic Port Authority, Alberto Pons, said that once the upgrade was complete, this superyacht haven would be amongst “the best in the Mediterranean, if not the best”.

Hard Rock Cafe Ibiza Pinktober campaign

October 12th, 2013

The world-famous Hard Rock brand is going PINK in support of its 14th Annual PINKTOBERT campaign, which provides guests with a variety of ways to show their support for the cause! Proceeds from the campaign will support research and awareness-driving efforts for breast cancer charities worldwide, and Hard Rock Cafe Ibiza could not be more proud to participate in it.

Hard Rock Cafe Ibiza launched its PINKTOBER campaign this past 26th of September with a magnificent concert of 2 great artists: Dover and Macaco, where the volunteers of the Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer – the AECC of Ibiza – came to help in the bar during the concert. At the end of the concert, Hard Rock Cafe Ibiza donated 847,14€ to this local group.

Also, to support the PINKTOBER campaign, both artists agreed to sing a pink Fender guitar which will be raffled off at the end of this month. The tickets for the raffle are only 2€ and are available all month at Hard Rock Cafe. All of the money collected will be donated directly to the AECC of Ibiza. The winner will be announced the 30th of October on the Hard Rock Cafe Ibiza Facebook page. (facebook.com/HRCIbiza)

PINKTOBER also brings the possibility to collaborate with special edition merchandise, including Hard Rock’s PINKTOBER T- shirt, which is currently available at Hard Rock Cafe Ibiza. Part of the total sales of this product will be donated to the local association to directly help those on the island who are most affected with this illness.

Continuing with the agenda of activities, on Thursday 24th of October, Hard Rock Cafe Ibiza will offer a unique concert inside the cafe where 3 local bands – of different generations – “Epsilon”, “Jetlag” and “Uncle Sal” – will also assist with the fundraising by sharing their talent and show for free. This concert will be free entrance, with a suggested donation, and everybody is welcome from 20:00 hrs.

The end of the campaign will be a charity dinner on Saturday 26th of October where Hard Rock will raffle exclusive prizes, all with the objective to collect the most money possible for Hard Rock’s PINKTOBER campaign. Tickets for the dinner are available at Hard Rock Cafe and also from the AECC of Ibiza (donella@aecc.es)

16th DJ Awards, Ibiza, 25/9/2013

September 26th, 2013

dj awardsNow in its 16th year, the DJ Awards were held last night in Pacha. The evening’s proceedings kicked off with a press party beforehand at the sumptuous Ocean Drive Hotel, where the world’s media jostled for photos and interviews with the nominated DJs and producers who were present.

The award ceremony then took place at Pacha, with Ibiza and Pacha resident DJ Graham Sahara spinning the tunes before and after the ceremony proper. Hosted efficiently by Des Paul and DJ Lora, each award and the nominees were announced, and the winners took to the stage to collect their DJ Awards Trophy, made from green kryptonite. Part way through, we were treated to a live PA by Francesco Rossi, who performed ‘Paper Aeroplanes’ which won the award for ‘Track of the season’.

kathy sledgeBut the highlight of the night for me was the PA by Kathy Sledge (the youngest of the infamous Sister Sledge sisters) who in recognition of her ‘Outstanding contribution award’ performed to Aristofreek’s remix of ‘We are family’. Kathy has just signed to the newly launched Pacific Electronic Music label, so there’ll be plenty of new music and remixes coming from her soon.

The Lifetime achievement award was presented to Jerry L Greenberg, who at 32, was the youngest president of any major record company in the recording industry as President of Atlantic Records in 1974.

aristofreeks & jerry greenbergJerry was responsible for breaking artists in the US such as Chic, The Trammps, Shannon, Abba and rock acts The Rolling Stones, Genesis and Led Zeppelin amongst others. Jerry announced that he has formed a new worldwide music company, Pacific Electronic Music (PEM) with Ibiza-based electronic producing and DJ duo, The Aristofreeks, aka Lenny Ibizarre and Max Martire.

At the end all the winners appeared together on the stage proudly holding their awards for photographs – a nice touch.

It was actually a great night. I expected it to be a long and drawn out affair, but it wasn’t, and it was great to witness a live performance from Kathy Sledge, in what has seen the resurgence of disco in Ibiza this summer, thanks to Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’ getting a lot of airing on the island and Chic playing live at Ibiza Rocks earlier in the month.

Here’s the full list of the winners: Read the rest of this entry »
