The second annual Ibiza ‘Freddie for a Day’ Fundraiser for the Mercury Phoenix Trust is confirmed for Sunday 2nd September.
Special guests confirmed include 2Mercury DJs, Mark Jones, Lottie, Andy Carroll, Colin Peters, Stray Kitten and Grayson Shipley plus a VERY SPECIAL GUEST with a special live performance from Wall of Sound’s hotly tipped next best thing, BB and upcoming band, Visitors.
The date of the event coincides with what would have been the Queen front man’s 66th birthday.
Following on from the success of last year’s ‘Freddie for a Day’ charity fundraiser at Ibiza Rocks House, Mark Jones & his Wall of Sound crew are back for more fun and nonsense, all in the best possible taste, and all for a great cause- The Mercury Phoenix Trust- that wonderful legacy left to us by international music icon, Freddie Mercury, not to mention the fellow members of his supergroup- Queen.
Sunday, 2nd September is the date confirmed for the event, with the early part of the day set aside for munchin’ and a-minglin’ alongside the traditional Sunday Roast from 2pm. A spot of lunch, a dip in the hotel’s famous pool, a quick snooze and it’s time to get togs on and ‘tashed up for what is set to be yet one more magic moment in the annals of Ibiza Rocks history.
As per last year, organiser Mark Jones, Wall of Sound main man, has put together a line up that really stands out from the Ibiza crowd. As well as DJs including Lottie, Andy Carroll, Colin Peters, Stray Kitten and Grayson Shipley, get set for three headlining guest DJs SO special we are not even allowed to announce it. But hear this, you’d be mental to miss it…
And then there are the live elements of the event. Ibiza Rocks House are pleased to present an exclusive performance from UK band, Visitors, as well as, brought to us by Wall Of Sound, BB. Hotly tipped as the next best thing. BB were formed after a chance meeting at the BBC Introducing Master Class of 2011 at Abbey Road Studios. Singer Billy Wright & drummer Robert Gulston immediately bonded over a passion for pop songs, dance music and exciting live shows. After locking themselves away in a studio in their hometown of Southend, the duo honed their writing formula and emerged in 2012 with a galvanised sound and a live show that combines euphoric samples, thumping drums, explosive guitars and insanely catchy melodies. They are currently adding the final touches to their debut album.
Asked about their upcoming gig at Ibiza Rocks House and BB had this to say: “Freddie was the kind of musician you wanted to be from the first time you picked up a mic or sat down to write a song. There was something magnetic about his performances, he had thousands of people in the palm of his hand…No one has come close since. So when you get asked to go to Ibiza and pay tribute to Freddie, you go!”
Bearing in mind at all times that this is a fundraising event, party goers are asked to seriously get involved! As well as encouraging as many Freddie lookie-likees as possible on the night, organisers stressed that the easiest way to make a contribution to the cause was by purchasing your Freddie Moustache on entrance to Ibiza Rocks House, with all proceeds going directly to the Mercury Phoenix Trust.

Firstly though we would like to point out to anyone who watched the insidious TV programme that Living TV did last Thursday about Ibiza, Octavia Coates was NOT sacked by Tony Pike (contrary to the voiceover on the programme), is doing her job as normal and that no-one on the island who has any integrity is having anything to do with Living TV (i.e. everyone who lives here).
First up is a quick video we did of Kym Mazell being interviewed live on Sonica radio with Lenny Ibizarre dj’ing in the background.

The first of the high profile, “official” ibiza after-parties kicked off in style in the sumptuous surroundings of the emblematic Pike’s Hotel in San Antonio on the last Sunday in June.
We didn”t have “Wham” in the pool, but we did have “Def Mix” free-styling in the new DJ booth alongside that same pool from 8 in the morning.
The support act was a superb buffet featuring only the best of British brunch cuisine. This included “Duchy” sausages and bacon from the Prince of Wales own organic estate at Highgrove, scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and almost everything else that you might ever have eaten whilst being spoilt at breakfast time.
This innovative reaction to the draconian new after-party laws has to be a market leader and was appropriately supported by Ibiza Global Radio in the form of the follow up DJs – David Phillips and J.M. Ramon. These two were inspirationally hyphernated with a live sax performance by Deva. Live sax with ambient grooves alongside Pike’s pool to the tune of frozen Bloody Marys and Buck’s Fizz – you get the picture?
The only wonder was that the place wasn’t mobbed. This was an Ibiza experience of the highest quality, but finding a table wasn’t a problem. Word hasn’t percolated through yet – get there and dip a toe into this before it’s too late. You could be looking at another “San Rafael swimming pool” before it evolved into “Ku” and finally hit the roadblock called “Privilege”…
Pike’s Breakfast Club: from 8 am to 3 pm from just 20 euros

Its been very sunny for the past couple of weeks so it seems that the Almond blossom has appeared a bit early. Everywhere you go on the island at the moment the almond is in full bloom…
Santa Gertrudis "High Street" as of today – 1st Feb 2008
We had to pop in to see Pikes Hotel today and remembered the photos we’d taken back at the end of August when We Are Scientists played there as part of the Ibiza Rocks series. So we took the opportunity to take a "before & after" photo from the same spot to show how things can appear differently… ;) – except the "before" was actually "after"…
Also if you’re in Ibiza at the moment check out This Ibiza Life tonight on 106.4 fm as we’ll be on as guests of the host Gail Fear – probably relentlessly plugging the website and magazine. Hopefully we’ll even put up a podcast of it tomorrow. (We have to race back to Santa Eulalia after the show for the weekly Los Corrales vs The Tall Ships pool competition…
