Tonights Ibiza Sunset Video – 26-07-08

July 26th, 2008

We haven’t done a video sunset for awhile since the sun has been setting off to our right from the balcony and basically there haven’t been any clouds but as we were playing with a new video programme, some new equipment and the sun is starting to set more and more in view (as we thought) we thought we see how it went. It does need some tinkering…

Anyway, here’s tonights ibiza sunset video:

Music is from Lenny Ibizarre from his new double album called “Selected Sessions” – This is from the chill cd. You’ll be able to buy all his cd’s online shortly from the site.

Lenny Ibizarre – Selected Sessions Album launch

July 10th, 2008

releaseflyersmall.jpgThe first of the new releases by the Ibizarre Records label planned for this summer is “Selected Sessions”, by head honcho Lenny himself, has it’s album lanch party on Friday night at Savannah’s

A double CD package, the first disc emphasizes Lenny’s role as the leader of the Ibiza ambient style. The second, however, is proper dance music of the sort that he displayed when he lit up the Mambo opening party in May (check the podcast at

This is the style that Lenny is moving further towards with his live sets, that you’ll be able to catch at Savannah and Mambo, Atzarro and Pacha. The album is being released by Ibizarre Records and its distribution partner Intergroove, one of the biggest physical distributors in Europe, who believe that “Selected Sessions” could well be one of the summer’s biggest sellers. For this reason they’ve given it prominence on their summer advertising hoardings, here and elsewhere.

Ocho Restaurant, Ibiza opening party review and photos

June 5th, 2008

‘Ocho’ the hugely anticipated new restaurant on the San Juan road opened tonight, sort of next door to Bambuddha Grove in a country mile sort of context…

The San Juan road, otherwise known as the Restaurant Mile, is notoriously fast and narrow so car parking facilities had been enlarged as far as possible to cope with the anticipated rush to the revival of this once ultra-hip venue of years gone by.

Nonetheless the car parks were swamped as the ‘world and his wife’ of island residents flocked to survey the best efforts of Leah Tilbury and John Broekman opening up shop upon their return from exile in Formentera, where their bohemian Las Banderas hotel on Playa Mitjorn was a quirky and glamorous hotel frequented by A-listers from around the world.

The opening party was an opportunity for renewing old acquaintances and the buzz of conversation was all that could be heard as those honoured with invitations circulated and admired the new set up and impressive decor.

Afterwards we went down to Las Dalias to see our mate lenny play at the the opening of Namaste

Anyway – here’s our take on today:

Thursday began with another evocatively titled seminar:
“Cult of the Amateur”. Andrew Keen, the speaker and author of the book of the same name, is an internet entrepreneur and a brave visionary to set his stall out in front of such a large contingent of electronic music professionals, but he spoke from experience and with some authority, as a writer and analyst.

However, he clearly worried many of those present with his analysis of the role of the internet in destroying music industry income streams.

He began by recalling how the industry welcomed the net with open arms as a solution to the delivery problems for music – no physical product to manufacture, no delivery to myriad retail outlets and immediacy! But, er… no income stream.

In an attempt to solve that problem, the record companies united to crush the free music rebellion in the form of Napster. Keen described this as their Waterloo because that battle cost them the war when it spawned ‘peer to peer’ data exchange.

His argument arrived at the conclusion that nobody buys music any more – it’s free and freely available, so the only way to make money with music is through live performance. A good example might be the 500 million dollars earned by the Rolling Stones on their last tour, despite their new album bombing!

It seems somehow ironic that electronic music, which replaced live bands two decades ago, now finds itself being devoured by yet more electronic technology.

Andrew’s final point was that attending a live gig is quite different to listening to the music on your iPod, and people don’t mind paying if they’re having a good time…

The afternoon seminar was a somewhat subdued affair after the excitement of the previous afternoon. The audience were out in force, but the atmosphere felt a little negative as those present confessed to the fact that they often downloaded stuff for their own sets or to sample and were attempting to come to terms with having to distribute their own material at severely diminished prices and profit margins.

The morning message had clearly sunk in…
