The Drums at Ibiza Rocks on Tuesday, 24th August 2010:

This interview with The Drums on MTV is illuminating – choice quotes:
Q. Is this your first time in Ibiza and how does it compare to other places you’ve played?

A: We haven’t been to Ibiza before but It’s probably our least favourite place we’ve been so far, just to be honest, but we haven’t played here yet so we don’t know.

Q. What is it you don’t like about Ibiza?

A. Well, we don’t really like the climate and it’s just maybe a little too rowdy or something. People here aren’t very modest, if you know what I mean.

Celebrating five full-on years of fantastic live music and consistently strong line-ups, Ibiza Rocks 2010 boasts its most impressive bill to date. Biffy Clyro will provide the coolest start to one seriously hot summer when they kick off the proceedings along with Bombay Bicycle Club at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel on 8 June.

Biffy Clyro have become a huge success story in the UK and beyond, finely tuning their sound and now topping festival bills galore. The time is right for them to hit the White Isle on 8 June and the Scottish rockers promise to do it in style.

ibiza rocksTaking on the inaugural honour of playing the Balearic hot spots Mallorca and Ibiza Rocks back to back are North London’s Bombay Bicycle Club. Having released their debut album ‘I had the Blues but Shook Them Loose’ iast year, 2010 is already shaping up to be knockout year for the band. Not only have they picked up the award for Best New Band at the NME Awards 2010 but the foursome will be basking in sunshine as they performing at the opening of the Mallorca Rocks Hotel on 6 June, before flying straight into Ibiza to kick start Ibiza Rock’s stellar summer season on 8 June.

In 2005, when they were music stars in the making and Ibiza Rocks was being held in the back room of the world’s most famous club, Manumission, Maximo Park and Ibiza Rocks took a chance on each other and the magic was made. It was a ‘moment’ that was to change Ibiza’s music scene forever and now Maximo Park will return, five years on, for what is sure to be the most emotional and celebratory set of the season on 13 July. Support comes in the form of the eccentrically talented Kissy Sell Out who will take to the decks for Maximo Park as well as Florence & the Machine.

London lads Chase & Status are arguably the current heavyweights of the Drum ‘n’ Bass scene. They quite literally gave ‘More Than A Lot’ with their musical feast of an album last year, which spawned three No.1′s in the UK Dance Chart and catapulted them into the mainstream music scene. Last year, they were stars of the show at Reclaim the Dancefloor! and had their first Top 10 hit with ‘End Credits’ featuring Plan B. The dynamic duo has a production credit on Rihanna’s new album after being approached by the good lady herself. Chase & Status are champions of the new British music scene that is continually celebrated by Ibiza Rocks. Welcome back boys.

ibiza rocksChase & Status said: “We’ve played Ibiza as DJs before and the crowds have been amazing, but this will be our first live show in Ibiza so we’re expecting carnage!

Another bright star taking the charts, airwaves and blogs by storm is Tinie Tempah. The London born MC hasn’t even released his debut album yet but he’s already sailed into the singles charts, going straight to the No.1 spot for four weeks with massive hit ‘Pass Out’ and was included in MTV’s ’10 for 2010′ – the biggest acts to break this year. Tinie Tempah is the perfect opening to this big Ibiza Rocks show on 3 August.

Tinie Tempah said: “I cannot wait to come & Disturb Ibiza Rocks! It’ll be my first time in Ibiza and I’ve heard its absolute pandemonium! I’m putting a special set together specifically for Ibiza rocks, I’m going to make sure the crowd have the experience of a lifetime.

This summer sees Radio 1 return to the Ibiza Rocks Hotel on Friday 6 August. Broadcasting live from the Ibiza Rocks Hotel, the station will once again bring the fun and exhilaration of the White Isle to the UK. With scorching performances, blazing mixes and exclusive live sets from the best in UK and international talent, the Ibiza Rocks Hotel is guaranteed to party through the weekend.

Reclaim the Dancefloor – Wednesdays – Eden

Last years’ afterparty ‘Reclaim the Dancefloor!’ became such a runaway hit that it will continue as a stand-alone night.  With the help of resident DJ and rising star Doorly, it reclaimed the dancefloor last year and it’s claimed Wednesdays as its own in Ibiza this year beginning from June 16th – Sept 15th at Eden. The full, massive line up’s for this will be announced soon.  As well as producing the Ibiza Rocks mix CD (released June 2010) Doorly will be back behind the decks as resident DJ for both Ibiza Rocks and Reclaim the Dancefloor.

ibiza rocks hotelIbiza Rocks turns five this summer and boy has this baby grown up! The line up speaks volumes, with The Prodigy, Kele, Florence and the Machine, The Courteeners, Dizzee Rascal, Delphic, Calvin Harris, The Kooks, Pendulum and Example already booked for the summer long celebration.

Taking place every Tuesday from 08 June to 14 September at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel, it’s going to be one hell of a party, bursting with the biggest bands, DJ’s and best breakthrough talent, for 15 weeks straight.

Back in early 2005, Ibiza Rocks was born and the baby of the Balearics quite literally represented the birth of new life in Ibiza and enticed a new generation to the island. Bye bye to ageing superstar DJ’s, bloated VIP areas, inflated prices, foam parties and bad taste booze cruises. Hello to Ibiza Rocks’ groundbreaking series of live music events and an innovative youth brand totally in tune with their hungry, young audience.

From intimate, open-air gigs with some of the worlds best bands including Arctic Monkeys, to the launch of the destination concept Ibiza Rocks Hotel in 2008 with The Enemy, to the opening of a new hotel in Mallorca this year and the most sensational gig line up to date, the Ibiza Rocks brand knows no boundaries. Ibiza Rocks – unrivalled, unstoppable and unmissable!

courteeners ibiza rocksIbiza Rocks kicks off on Tuesday 08 June with some very special surprise guests at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel, the only hotel to offer an auditorium style atmosphere and private viewing balconies off the bedrooms.

June will also see one of the UK’s best live bands and festival favourities, The Courteeners (22) swing through the hotel’s rock ‘n’ roll doors and storm the open-air stage.

Liam Fray, The Courteeners said: ‘We can’t wait to get back out there. People go to Ibiza for one thing and that’s to have a f*cking good time. Let’s face it, we definitely fit the criteria.

Back by popular demand in July are ‘Dance Wiv Me’ collaborators, Scottish chart-topper Calvin Harris (06) and BRIT Award winner for Male Solo Artist, Dizzee Rascal(27). Both have played stand out sets at Ibiza Rocks in the past, but this year they will make history as two of the acts to play both Mallorca Rocks and Ibiza Rocks back to back; two islands, for two amazing live gigs within two days. Calvin will be joined at both gigs by one of the best breakthrough artists of 2010, Example.

dizzee rascal ibiza rocksDizzee Rascal said: ‘Can’t wait to play Ibiza Rocks again this year. It was one of my best shows of 2009. It went off big time.’

Every night at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel is party night and every Tuesday night in Ibizabelongs to Ibiza Rocks, but Tuesday 20 July will see some serious sparks flying. For the 5th birthday party, Ibiza’s premier live music promoters have pulled out all the stops to pull in the original Firestarters – The Prodigy!

Yes, the pioneers of Ibiza’s live music scene will celebrate with the pioneers of the electronic dance music scene. With both parties making their name from mixing up dance and rock and delivering ‘Music For the Jilted Generation’, this is the perfect Ibiza Rocks 5th Birthday party partnership. With a vision of creating a night for ‘dance kids who want to rock and rock kids who want to dance’ Ibiza Rocks was conceived with this very moment in mind. Happy Birthday indeed. It’s going to be emotional.

The third act to play both venues is multi-million selling band The Kooks who will make a welcome return to Ibiza Rocks in August (10), having already launched the brand new Mallorca Rocks Hotel on 06 June with Zane Lowe.

In one of the coolest billings of the hottest summer line up, Ibiza Rocks is proud to announce that Kele Okereke from Bloc Party will perform one of his first ever live solo shows as part of his side project. Taking place at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel in August (31), Kele will be supported by one of the biggest breakthrough bands of the year,Delphic. Having smashed into the Top 10 with debut album ‘Acolyte’ these boys and their Balearic sound is a match made in heaven for the White Isle.

Following her stunning debut onto the Ibiza Rocks stage as part of Radio 1′s Ibiza Weekend last year, August will see the return of Best British Album BRIT Award winnerFlorence and the Machine for her first headline show (24).

Pendulum will be back with their banging beats and electric live show in September (7). They are sure to be on a high as they fly in straight from Mallorca, where they will have headlined the Mallorca Rocks closing party the night before. September will see another set of very special guests play live under the stars before the Ibiza Rocks 2010 season comes to close on 14 September.

kooks ibiza rocksAlong with the best line up to date, Ibiza Rocks boasts its best deals, with the continuation of specially priced midweek breaks for the more flexible traveller and added extras. The Prodigy should be a very special night for the whole island. The line up keeps getting stronger and the Ibiza Rocks brand keeps getting bigger, but our core values have remained the same – great live entertainment at great value. Our weekly parties are epic, crammed with top talent and we keep thinking of new ideas to add value to someone’s night out or holiday. We keep delivering and thankfully the bands and the crowds keep coming.’
