We had our last beer last night at our favourite bar: Toni y Lola’s. The bar is below our flat, next to the kebab shop and earlier this year when we upgraded our adsl to 10mb we decided to put a transmitter on the balcony so that the bar and kebab shop could share our wifi for free.

Over time the bar became a little net cafe, it also had a great and diverse community, the morning workers with their coffees, the lunchtime crowd for menu del dia’s… spanish, dutch, french, german, english would all mix. As thanks for the wifi Tony and Lola would often give us free bottles wine to take home. Of course it also meant we could work downstairs in the bar….

Toni first started in the kiosko on the ramblas many years ago. When the council decided to close it they had to give him another bar – that ended up being the one downstairs. However Toni and Lola decided recently that they needed a break and so decided to sell the bar and retire. Within a week the bar had been snapped up and hence a sad farewell last night.

We met the new owners and hopefully everything will continue as before but you can’t replace two genuinely nice people.

north_bottle2.jpgWe ended up with a bit of bar hopping tonight around Santa Eulalia marina and locale, as someone said the Mirage was opening tonight (change of hands, more emphasis on live music etc) but they got the date wrong – no big surprise in Ibiza.

We ended up at Guarana’s to catch up with Alex (the owner) who introduced us to triple distilled Smirnoff North – we have to say that its the perfect chupito – if this isn’t drunk in vast quantities all over the island come the summer then .. er.. it will be.

The weather continues to be slightly less than conducive to going round the island taking photos and generally enjoying the scenery. The one thing you know though is that its not a good idea to complain about the weather when its like this because you know that its going to get hot and very soon – and then we’ll all be hoping for October when the temperature eases off….

We are happy and proud to announce the launch of our new website – ibizaA-Z.com – which has been put together with the latest innovations on the internet.

The launch party will take place at the Brisa de la Mar restaurant on Cala Pada beach next Sunday, April 1st from 2 p.m.
The Lost Mountain Orchestra will be providing the live music and the restaurant serving the cooked food to your table on the beach, if you like…

The website is completely revolutionary, in that the navigation system works entirely on Google maps, making it multi-lingual.

The plan is to take the everyday ‘A-Z’ ~ (yellow pages) to the next logical level, so that it actually shows you on a map where the front door of the place is, that you’re seeking. The next step is to take you through the front door and give you a virtual tour – but one step at a time, eh? …

Amongst the many new things that it can already do: it can, for example, plot bus routes telling you what time the next bus passes your stop (and if you miss that one it’ll tell you the time of the one after that!).

Many thanks in anticipation, we look forward to seeing you at the party.

Ibiza A-Z.com

P.S. If you do plan to come, and wish to enjoy a meal with your music please call Nicole, who is arranging the bookings for the restaurant, in order to reserve a table – as they may have to arrange to cater for more as demand has already exceeded our expectations.
Her phone number is 636 417 724.
