Tonight saw the second in this year’s summer Tuesday night sequence of Ibiza Rocks and, as a total contrast, we were treated to a gig at the Electric Bar’ deep inside the new Ibiza Rocks hotel.

I never went to Liverpool’s Cavern’, but I imagine it would have been something like this. A few more bobs and kipper ties no doubt, but low ceilings, strip lighting and a sweaty, expectant crowd. In fact nothing like last week’s outdoor gig at the horse trotting stadium, nor probably next week’s too…

It’s part of the beauty of the mystery tour’ concept. Like the hill parties of yore, the whereabouts of which were spirited to subversive music lovers by word of mouth. Early morning liaisons in the car parks of remote country pubs led to wild processions of headlights high up into the hills on rough caminos, to find themselves blocked in for days till everyone sobered up and went home.

Nowadays the laws are a bit tighter, and there are far more Guardia protecting the vested interests’ interests, so keeping the gig in-house’ could be construed as a favour to society - except that Ibiza Rocks lay on coaches to their parties… On the other hand, the mystery tour also lends itself nicely to the option of selecting venues according to ticket sales. We digress, with the ceiling only a matter of inches above the heads of the headline band, ‘One Night Only’, the atmosphere was sweaty and the young audience were heaving. Up front the occasional air borne beer increased the humidity, but didn’t dampen the atmosphere.

Suitably inspired, as they hammered out Started a Fire’, their 2008 hit single, the lead singer leapt onto the drum kit and smacked his head against the ceiling. Nobody laughed, they were all too busy singing along - after all it was only midnight and the party was set to finish at 5 in the morning…

Some more pictures from last nights Rock Night opening party at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel.

We were really impressed with the Underground Heroes - a really tight, energetic band and we’re looking forward to see them play again at the opening of Ibiza Rocks on Tuesday. As
usual the Hungover Stuntmen played a blinding set including a great cover of the Stones - Sympathy For The Devil.

index_album_right.jpgThose nice guys the Hungover Stuntmen have sent us a copy of their new album that they recorded here last year - two words - “buy it”

Highlights for us are “Ballad Of The Hungover Stuntman” - starting with a spaghetti western style intro and containing the lines “I Blame it on the BBC” from which the album gets it title. Other standout tracks are “Love Is Suicide” and “United States Of Emergency” which we can’t wait to hear live…

They’ll be at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel from May 28th

pikes hotel we are scientists at ibiza rocks, pikes hotel
We had to pop in to see Pikes Hotel today and remembered the photos we’d taken back at the end of August when We Are Scientists played there as part of the Ibiza Rocks series. So we took the opportunity to take a "before & after" photo from the same spot to show how things can appear differently… ;) - except the "before" was actually "after"…

We also are delighted to learn that those top guys known as Hungover Stuntmen have name-checked us on their forthcoming album - we’re chuffed to bits. “Blame The BBC” - out in all good record shops and some naff ones too on March 17th - buy it…We’ve a scan of the relevant artwork but have been sworn to keep it under wraps for the moment.

Also if you’re in Ibiza at the moment check out This Ibiza Life tonight on 106.4 fm as we’ll be on as guests of the host Gail Fear - probably relentlessly plugging the website and magazine. Hopefully we’ll even put up a podcast of it tomorrow. (We have to race back to Santa Eulalia after the show for the weekly Los Corrales vs The Tall Ships pool competition…
