Delphic supporting Kele at Ibiza Rocks on Tuesday, 24th August 2010:

Another stunning night – I think it’s safe to say that everyone thought that Delphic were easily the best support band of Ibiza Rocks this year – (honarary mentions though to Bombay Bicycle Clun, Detroit Social Scene, Example and Everything Everything) but could arguably have headlined in their own right cf: Andy Caroll – a tight, anthemic set with lots of loud guitar in the right places – we loved it.

Kele at Ibiza Rocks on Tuesday, 24th August 2010:

Another stunning night – I think it’s safe to say that everyone thought that Delphic were easily the best support band of Ibiza Rocks this year – (honarary mentions though to Bombay Bicycle Club, Detroit Social Scene, Example and Everything Everything) and could arguably have headlined in their own right cf: Andy Caroll – a tight, anthemic set with lots of loud guitar in the right places – we loved it. Personal highlight was seeing Brett Anderson from Suede and persuading him to get his photo taken in front of the Ibiza Rocks wall – sadly our camera was elsewhere at that point so had to make do with the iphone – but its a bit of a rubbish photo.

We weren’t sure what Kele was going to be like – we like Bloc party but its not really our thing normally – but his solo stuff is much more up our street however and he’s got great musicians and it was a full band interaction and it wasn’t just about Kele himself – good fun and much better than we had hoped for. Jon the Rev and his Reverend Sound System was on hand at Es Paradis afterwards to end the evening on a high. Top night.

The guys at ibiza-flavour.tv have produced a great video from last weeks benefit gig for Jacquie. She should be back in Ibiza next month after the horrific gas explosion under her flat back in June.

This interview with The Drums on MTV is illuminating – choice quotes:
Q. Is this your first time in Ibiza and how does it compare to other places you’ve played?

A: We haven’t been to Ibiza before but It’s probably our least favourite place we’ve been so far, just to be honest, but we haven’t played here yet so we don’t know.

Q. What is it you don’t like about Ibiza?

A. Well, we don’t really like the climate and it’s just maybe a little too rowdy or something. People here aren’t very modest, if you know what I mean.

Update 25/08/10 – The Balearic government have said this morning that the fire has been stabilised although it looks like over 300 hectares of forest and woodland has been affected. It’s the worst fire on the island since 1993.

Update 24/08/10. The fires are still burning and over an estimated 300 hectares have been affected. Another seaplane has been added to the fleet this morning and they are now concentrating on the area to the north of Benirras:

Update 9pm 23/08/10 – just got word from a friend “Have just been told the fire department have admitted they have lost control of the fire at Benirras and can do little more as night falls. Locals between Portinatx and Benirras have been told to free all their livestock and leave their homes immediately.”

A large fire at Benirras in the north of Ibiza started yesterday and according to reports it has spread to cover around 120-150 hectares. Over 300 troops from the Instute of Nature, Ibiza Fire and Emergency Military units are working on putting out the fires. Some 1,500 people were evacuated from the area, many by sea.

This morning 3 Canadair seaplanes, four helicopters, 3 cargo planes are involved. Cause of the fire is as yet unknown.

The event on Tuesday outside of Santa Eulalia’s town hall was an amazing success.

The night raised 6000 euros to help Jacquie when she finally comes back home to Ibiza.

An emotional night for everyone and none more so when Jacquie called Katy on the stage and she spoke out her words live…
