ibiza-rocks-2013-chaseandstatusWhen we arrived at Ibiza Rocks for headliners Chase & Status, the venue was seriously packed and the crowd had been whipped into a frenzy by support Monsta and DJ Doorly. Consequently it didn’t take long for the area in front of the stage to become a huge mosh pit, and bodies were being passed over the barrier very early on into their set. From my position in the pit where I was taking photos, I was aware of the mass of excited punters in front of the stage and could hear the screams from the girls at the front whenever MC Rage got close to them.

ibiza-rocks-2013-chaseandstatusThey put on a great show with Chase and Status playing from their respective ‘C’ and ‘S’ stations at either side of the stage, drummer Andy Gangadeen in the background and MC Rage working the front of the stage and the audience. Saul Milton (Chase) played guitar on some of the songs, moving further to the front of the stage. And all the way through there was an impressive light show and back projections, showing videos of the collaborating singers, with the odd guest taking up the vocals onstage too. They played tracks off their first two albums plus a couple of new tracks and a great cover of ‘Killing in the name, which was the highlight for me’.

The atmosphere could only be described as mental, and to be honest I didn’t enjoy the gig. It’s actually really hard to move around the venue and get a good vantage point to take photos when there’s a large crowd going crazy. But everyone else there looked like they loved it, judging by the way they were moshing, jumping up and down and waving their arms in the air and dancing furiously in any available space. I’ll just put my lack of enjoyment down to it not really being my taste in music and not my style of live performance. Give me a full band playing live any day. But it was the wildest night of Ibiza Rocks so far this year, and you can’t dispute that. Watch the videos and see what I mean.
