DJ Antz, Crazy Golf & Ibiza Easter Fundraising

March 26th, 2013

DJ, music producer, fundraiser and, in a recent revelation, golfer, Ibiza resident Anthony Bryans- ANTZ- is a man with very many talents. In the latest of a long list of his moves and shakes, the London born DJ is once again behind another fundraising event for the local branch of the Spanish Cancer Association (AECC), flying in from Miami especially for the event at Hidden Bar, Ibiza, on Saturday 30th March 2013.

In a winter that has seen Antz mostly locked in a studio ear-deep in a very special music collaboration in full swing (more details soon…), Bryans has also been involved in raising the profile of the AECC through his continuing voluntary work with the association, in the form of a number of fundraising initiatives including this, the Easter Fayre in Cala San Vicente, from 12pm-6pm.

Flying straight in from his visit to Miami, where his activities included a few rounds of golf with former racing driver and founder and owner of Jordan Grand Prix, Eddie Jordan, in a game organised by no less than World Number One and a two-time major champion golfer, Rory McIlroy MBE. But Antz has decided to put the golf clubs down, leave the Miami Music Conference to its own devices and fly back in order to be present at the event at Hidden, arriving back on the island just in the nick of time to DJ at the Easter Fayre.

Antz, who himself kicked cancer firmly to the kerb several years ago, first became involved with raising awareness of the local AECC association a year ago, through a meeting arranged by FIX Ibiza’s Jillian Canney with the Ibiza & Formentera branch of the AECC’s Vice-President Sue Mari. Since then, momentus has grown with other future efforts for the AECC including the upcoming 1st Ibiza Charity Polo Cup, taking place on Saturday, June 8th in an initiative with local company, Ibiza Delivers.

The 2nd AECC fundraiser at Hidden Bar, Ibiza – An Afternoon of Fun, Fundraising and Cocktails.

‘Hidden’– literally, in the bay of Cala San Vicente– is the perfect location for a fundraiser of this nature. Evoking memories of Alice in Wonderland’s charming quaint dreamland, weathered bunting and china cups amongst the giant chess pieces and crazy golf course, organisers plan an Easter Fayre with definite references to the ideas and ideals of a good old traditional Easter Fayre.

Bring and Buy stalls, Arts & Crafts, Raffle, Tombola, Crazy Golf, Easter Egg hunt, Easter Bonnet competition, face-painting- just some of the activities in store on Easter Saturday,

Other Easter treats include Hot Cross buns and Easter cakes, plus a selection of cocktails from acclaimed mixologist Chris Edwardes.

In the kitchen: Michael Arthur and Pedro Cervero.

Providing the Music:

Ibiza Resident DJ, Music Producer and AECC volunteer Anthony Bryans, has long since been renowned as the man people go to when they want to get a real party started. Resident at Ibiza Rocks House at Pikes and Aura, ANTZ also plays at innumerous private parties on island and internationally and alongside the likes of Carl Cox and Groove Armada. His eclectic mixes of house, disco and classics of all shapes and sizes, perfect dancing fodder for your feet.

Scott Gray (UK/Ibiza):
is an Ibiza based DJ from London. His style is best described as all things funky, including soul, reggae and old school hip-hop. Scott regularly provides the beach sounds at Sands, the sunset sets at La Sal, cool chilled vibes at Hidden as well as private parties all over the Island.

Jean Michelle Jarre keynote announced for IMS 2013

March 21st, 2013

Jean Michel Jarre, one of the earliest pioneers of synthesised music, will be giving a keynote interview at this years International Music Summit here in Ibiza in May where he will discuss his career, past, present and future. He says:

“I was excited to discover the IMS event in Ibiza and particularly the values it holds for a genre of music which I’ve been involved in from the early beginnings. I continue to push the genre forward in many ways, and I see my Keynote Interview at IMS as a way to continue to communicate my passions to a wider and younger audience – who appear to be today’s trailblazers for this genre, all united in one location. “

Jarre, who laid the foundations of what eventually became dance music, having also established himself as the true master of the open-air extravaganza with incredible light shows at Tiananmen Square, the Pyramids as backdrops and the infamous Destination Docklands shows, has been collaborating with some of the hottest contemporary names in modern electronica, including his recent work on Parisian imprint InFiné.

IMS partner Ben Turner states: “A lot of work has gone into landing Jean Michel Jarre. But we are hugely excited to have his attendance. I interviewed him in 1993 for the Melody Maker when electronic DJs like Slam had remixed his work. So it’s been amazing talking to him again about speaking at IMS. He is a true pioneer and his understanding of today’s scene is quite surprising. His understanding of the challenges facing the business is second to none, and his vision for change is also impressive and inspiring.”

Nile Rodgers, who broke the news that he was working with Daft Punk at last years IMS, and is the global ambassador for the Association for Electronic Music (AFEM), will also be returning to the IMS for a chat,

Turner states: “Nile set IMS alight last year but it felt like he didn’t get to finish his story. So welcome back – the man was an inspiration and so much has come from his involvement in IMS last year. He can come back every single year as far as IMS is concerned.”

Wine tasting in Ibiza, March 11th, at Ca n’Arabi

March 7th, 2013

Ibizan wine merchants/sommeliers WineList presents “An Afternoon of Wine Tasting in the Countryside” at the rural hotel, Ca n’Arabi on Monday March 11th, 4.00-8.00pm.

The mini wine fair will feature the vintners and winemakers Coca i Fito, Corona de Aragón, Beso del Vino and Viñedos Singulares and will feature amongst others Cavas Durán, Joaquín Rebolledo, Valserrano and Val Magrigal.

What could beat a lovely afternoon in the rural hideaway of the Ca n’Arabi hotel in the Ibizan countryside at Puig den Valls, tasting some of the finest Spanish wines? The wines selected are distributed exclusively on the island of Ibiza by WineList, founded in 2012 with the aim of providing modern, original and special Spanish wines, at reasonable prices.

A number of guests will also be at the event, including Miquel Coca i Fito (owner of Coca i Fito), Luis Barrero (owner of Viñedos Singulares) and Manuel Castillo (commercial distributor of Grandes Vinos y Viñedos and Beso del Vino). So you will not only be able to taste the wines on offer, but also talk to the vintners or distributors about them.

Elena Miragall, owner of WineList says:

“We will present a selection of wines from family wineries, each prepared with great care and dedication, typical of the wineyard and its family traditions. The flavours in these wines express the very character of the land from which they came.”

The Ibiza Harlem Shake, March 1st 2013

March 2nd, 2013

The latest viral dance craze flying around the globe is the Harlem Shake. As one of the hotspots on the world’s dance circuit, it was inevitable that Ibiza would have to get in on the act and do the Harlem Shake.

The brainchild of FixIbiza’s Jill Canney, the event quickly grew momentum via FaceBook, and on Friday March 1st, which was also a local holiday (Balearic Day), about 30-40 people gathered in the port opposite the Casino to take part in this historic event.

This type of outdoor event is usually easy to plan in Ibiza, as dry, sunny days are the norm. However, this was not to be on March 1st, and by 4pm when the Shake was due to take place, the wind was strong and the rain was coming down hard and fast! Despite this being the worst weather we had had all year, a large group of people, children and dogs turned up to participate, complete with the contents of their dressing-up boxes.

The weather failed to dampen people’s spirits, and the photos and videos here show testament to what was a wacky and fun event to take part in.

An impromptu after-party took place at Father Jacks Irish Bar in Figueretas, where the merriment and dancing carried on for several hours afterwards.
