Pete Doherty at Ibiza Rocks Bar Opening

Not exactly being the biggest fan of Pete Doherty, Babyshambles or Libertines I really didn’t know what to expect – I’d seen Carl Barat and loved what he did. After moving here in basically ’98 I missed all that original stuff until I went back in the last few years to what I loved, which was basically music that polarised people. When I got there I found out he’d missed 1 flight, then apparently it was that he’d missed another flight but he’s definitely on the one that will be here ish in time.
Pete and about 8 others turned up just before 11pm and Pete came down about 15 minutes later. With the exception of a very funny banter with the crowd about which hat he should wear he basically played non-stop for about an hour. To someone who’s heard all the various forms of Pete Doherty but not really seen any of them live it seemed like a greatest hits set – but it worked – on acoustic guitar – albeit amped up. Up close and personal you can see how actually confident and good he is. I admit I’ve changed my mind about him – I thought it was great.
I could’ve gone back up to the vip terrace to watch the set but it was much more fun downstairs.
It’s a great way to kick off Ibiza Rocks this year – I’m off to the Mallorca Rocks opening next weekend and then back for Tuesdays Ibiza Rocks opening with Biffy Clyro – can’t wait.
