When the holiday season approaches the island’s nightlife really cranks back up! But even in the weeks preceding and following it there are plenty of steadfast institutions that help us maintain the proper amount of social cohesion well after the sun goes down.
The EXPERIENCE bar is a location for very exclusive and fine celebrations. The chic bar with club character is open every Friday and Saturday from midnight to early morning hours. BEHIND CLOSED DOORS is the name of the party series by owner Jason Bull, with an ever-changing line up of Ibiza resident DJs like DJane Issie Nixon and Hofer 66, with his famous SENSE event. On 06 December David Sanchez will be spinning. There’s no cover charge. And from 9pm to midnight there is a huge BBQ buffet for 12 euros on offer – eat as much as you like! Each week they entice with a different buffet theme.
On 24 December the party is LET IT WIGGLE, which considering the selection of funk and soul music should set your dancing feet and hips a’wiggle at the very least. They will also be celebrating into the New Year. The EXPERIENCE bar is located in the chic art deco hotel Es VIVE in Figueretes, which is remaining open the whole winter this year.
SHIRAYA’S DREAM is an ELECTRO OPERA pairing electronic music with opera singing. You’ve never seen anything like this before. The opera tells the story of the spiritual development of the ‘Queen of the Night’, who represents humanity, but I cannot reveal anything else at this point. The story will be told in four acts. This musical direction is new and much was written specifically for the opera. And, to top it off, this is a world premiere!
The opera is playing from 29 December to 05 January on five evening. There will be an additional matinee performance for students, seniors and the differently-abled. Afterwards there’s a party with DJs Hofer66, Barefootdoctor and Mike von Hash at the turntables. The location is Santa Eulalia’s convention centre.
On 05 December starting at 6pm come to the Winter Opening Party in CHAOS with a grand party to celebrate into the feast of St. Nicholas. They’ll be serving snacks and other little surprises and are also planning a live broadcast on the big-screen television of a variety of live concerts, like B. Kylie and Robbie Williams. Find out more in the BAR CHAOS located at Calle de Asturias 2 in Figueretes. It is open every Monday through Friday from 6pm to 1am, as well as Saturdays and Sundays from 1pm to 8pm.
The date is 19 December for the monthly ROCKNIGHTS event in the LA MARTINA club in Hotel Garbi on Platja d’en Bossa. The motto changes every month and there are surprise DJs. They open their doors at midnight, and close them as always at 6 in the morning.
The long runner in winter is GRIAL, located near the Pacha roundabout. The club is open from Wednesday through Saturday starting at 10pm and is usually well filled by about midnight. In the little attached bar next door it is very cosy. Depending on the weekday the place can get packed by about 3am. And they close GRIAL at 6am. You will get phat sounds and the island’s night owls. No cover charge.
Open from Thursday through Sunday is the popular classic GUARANA on the marina of Santa Eulalia. The bar opens at 10pm and the DJ starts spinning round about midnight. Entry is also free of charge here. Drink prices are moderate. Sundays traditionally get started at 6pm, and shortly thereafter the live musicians take to the stage and start rocking the place. Once a month come visit the KINKY DOLL party series, with Miss Kinky, DJane Issie Nixon and Mister Kinky DJ Karlitosh.
RACO VERD in Sant Josep also has live music nights. The cafe with bar is open daily. Live music is writ large at the place. Music ranges from 1970s rock and blues on through to Brazilian music and gypsy-style Flamenco. Musicians always play from 10pm to midnight. Located across from the church.
Along with the “holy” hustle and bustle in PACHA on Christmas Eve, in Sant Rafel you can also visit UNDERGROUND this evening. Host Don Juanito will be bringing down the house with his electro sounds. UNDERGROUND is still a little slice of old Ibiza party culture. Live and let live, and party together. Around 11pm is when they open the doors, and the entry is free of charge. Closing hour is usually before 6am, but this holy night isn’t over yet, because this is when PACHA really gets going. A great way to celebrate Xmas! UNDERGROUND will also be open on New Year’s Eve at 11pm.
The last day of the year is a Thursday, which is a wonderful coincidence in this case. Every last Thursday in the month is the MONZA party, serving up only the finest of techno for your listening pleasure, a great crowd and stylish atmosphere. On 31 December they’re getting started at midnight in BLU on Calle Navarra 27 in Figueretas. It’s best to park near McDonalds and please do not bring any fireworks! Otherwise everything else is allowed. On the first day of the year they’re throwing an open-end party, so get ready to party into 2010!
On 01 January you can keep on keeping on full tilt. DC-10 invites you to their New Year’s concert of the special kind. The doors to CIRCO LOCO open at six in the morning. It’s easy to find on the road to Ses Salines. This ‘crazy’ circus will keep going all through the day. The place will probably close some time on 02 January. But until then it’s party ’til you drop – and give a gorgeous hello to the New Year. Hope it’s a good one for you!

Some are betting on tapas, others on set menus. The municipalities of Sant Antoni and Santa Eulalia are trying to attract visitors from near and far on Ibiza with culinary events over the coming weeks.
In Sant Antoni ‘Restaurat’ is running until 23rd December and includes a lunch menu of several courses for just 12 euros with 18 restaurants and 25 bars participating in the event. The menus include dishes and drinks that have their origin on Ibiza. You can find and/or download the various menus from the municipal Internet page at www.santantoni.net.
Santa Eulalia’s answer is the ‘Rutapa’ and, as the name suggests, the event running through to 2nd January revolves around everything to do with those famous little morsels called tapas. Participating restaurants and bars offer a tapa and a drink, usually a glass of wine for just 2 euros.

The Young Entrepreneurs Association of Ibiza, Joves Empresaris, are to announce the winners of Best New Company and Best Entrepreneur this Wednesday 25th November at the Joves Empresaris Awards in Ibiza.
Prizes include 3000 euros for ‘Best Young Business’ and 2000 euros for ‘Best Entrepreneur’, with a total of 13 companies and 11 entrepreneurs from the island entered in the competition.
As the world plods on into another crisis-tinged winter, pulling its purse strings tighter as it goes, one mustn’t fail to remember that beneath the surface of any crisis worth its salt, there’s an industrious little hive of entrepreneurs doing their bit to help keep the economy afloat, each in their own self-employed way. And whilst it may be common knowledge that breaking away from the mainstream and setting up business tout seule is a challenge whatever which way you look at it, that hasn’t stopped a number of young inspired business people from the island from doing just that. To encourage their efforts and their hunger, Joves Empresaris, part of the Eivissa-Crea framework, are backing them all the way, this time with a cash incentive and the chance to win the title of Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
The event takes place this Wednesday, 25th November in the Plenary Hall of the Consell de Ibiza, and will bring together the ten finalists for the categories of ‘Best Young Business’ and also this year, for the first time in the history of the Ibiza branch of the organisation, ‘Best Young Entrepreneur’. With cash sums of 3000 euros and 2000 euros respectively, the winners of the awards will also go forward for the Balearic round of the competition with an added 4,500 euros and 3,000 euros there for the taking, before moving on to the National Awards.
Joves Empresaris is a non-profit entity formed for the purpose of promoting entrepreneurs and represents, defends and manages the interests of young business brains right across the Baleares. Amongst many other services offered by the Association, JOVES offers hands on assistance and advice with attaining grants, training courses and job opportunities. The Ibiza branch currently counts with 27 members, with a total of some 200 across the Baleares.
At this week’s ceremony, the judge and jury of Premios Joves Empresaris will also announce the recipients of five special awards with special focus on innovative business aspects including management, growth and expansion strategy, environmental management and corporate social responsibility and finally, entrepreneurship. Forming part of the judging panel will be representatives of CAEB, Sa Nostra Bank, the Balearic Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, ISBA, Ibiza City Hall, the Youth Department and Consell Insular of Ibiza.
