Archive for November, 2009When the holiday season approaches the island’s nightlife really cranks back up! But even in the weeks preceding and following it there are plenty of steadfast institutions that help us maintain the proper amount of social cohesion well after the sun goes down. The EXPERIENCE bar is a location for very exclusive and fine celebrations. The chic bar with club character is open every Friday and Saturday from midnight to early morning hours. BEHIND CLOSED DOORS is the name of the party series by owner Jason Bull, with an ever-changing line up of Ibiza resident DJs like DJane Issie Nixon and Hofer 66, with his famous SENSE event. On 06 December David Sanchez will be spinning. There’s no cover charge. And from 9pm to midnight there is a huge BBQ buffet for 12 euros on offer – eat as much as you like! Each week they entice with a different buffet theme.
SHIRAYA’S DREAM is an ELECTRO OPERA pairing electronic music with opera singing. You’ve never seen anything like this before. The opera tells the story of the spiritual development of the ‘Queen of the Night’, who represents humanity, but I cannot reveal anything else at this point. The story will be told in four acts. This musical direction is new and much was written specifically for the opera. And, to top it off, this is a world premiere! The opera is playing from 29 December to 05 January on five evening. There will be an additional matinee performance for students, seniors and the differently-abled. Afterwards there’s a party with DJs Hofer66, Barefootdoctor and Mike von Hash at the turntables. The location is Santa Eulalia’s convention centre.
The date is 19 December for the monthly ROCKNIGHTS event in the LA MARTINA club in Hotel Garbi on Platja d’en Bossa. The motto changes every month and there are surprise DJs. They open their doors at midnight, and close them as always at 6 in the morning. The long runner in winter is GRIAL, located near the Pacha roundabout. The club is open from Wednesday through Saturday starting at 10pm and is usually well filled by about midnight. In the little attached bar next door it is very cosy. Depending on the weekday the place can get packed by about 3am. And they close GRIAL at 6am. You will get phat sounds and the island’s night owls. No cover charge.
RACO VERD in Sant Josep also has live music nights. The cafe with bar is open daily. Live music is writ large at the place. Music ranges from 1970s rock and blues on through to Brazilian music and gypsy-style Flamenco. Musicians always play from 10pm to midnight. Located across from the church. Along with the “holy” hustle and bustle in PACHA on Christmas Eve, in Sant Rafel you can also visit UNDERGROUND this evening. Host Don Juanito will be bringing down the house with his electro sounds. UNDERGROUND is still a little slice of old Ibiza party culture. Live and let live, and party together. Around 11pm is when they open the doors, and the entry is free of charge. Closing hour is usually before 6am, but this holy night isn’t over yet, because this is when PACHA really gets going. A great way to celebrate Xmas! UNDERGROUND will also be open on New Year’s Eve at 11pm.
On 01 January you can keep on keeping on full tilt. DC-10 invites you to their New Year’s concert of the special kind. The doors to CIRCO LOCO open at six in the morning. It’s easy to find on the road to Ses Salines. This ‘crazy’ circus will keep going all through the day. The place will probably close some time on 02 January. But until then it’s party ’til you drop – and give a gorgeous hello to the New Year. Hope it’s a good one for you! By Alex Tichy
