Recycling in Ibiza

September 16th, 2009 - 2:04 pm Posted in ibiza, Recycling | Comments (2)

A few months ago these new sets of recycling bins started appearing Santa Eulalia – they are also over the rest of Ibiza. The suspician everyone had was that, although they are seperate bins, when the dustbin truck came round they were all emptied at the same time – nothing would surprise us.

Normally the bins are emptied at a stupid hour in the morning, however whilst out today we actually saw them being emptied. Sure enough the truck emptied the yellow bin, drove round the corner to the next set and only emptied those yellow bins. Walking across town we saw the truck again and sure enough it only emptied the yellow bins – it works.

Of course the one problem they forgot is that most tourists dont speak spanish so have no idea which ones are which!

This is sooo cool. I really want one of these for recycling the bins we’ve deployed, however they’d all be out of reach of the hiab. This system is so much better, cleaner looking and more efficient than the wheelie bins we have in the UK. Bet your waste collection agencies don’t go on strike all the time either.!!
