It was the July full moon the next morning but, too impatient to wait, Sansara, on the San Carlos road out of Santa Eulalia, we decided to get on with it before the following night’s numerous ‘official’ full moon parties, when the moon would actually already be waning.

The highlight of the night’s entertainment were a band called ‘Rostra de la Medusa’, which translates as ‘Face of the Jellyfish’ and their music was reminiscent of the hill parties of yore. Those whole weekend jobbies where you couldn’t get your car out for days, for all the others were blocking the caminos. Bizarre and wonderful locations where you’d watch the sun rise then clamber down the hill to have a swim in the early morning sea.

Sansara is not like that, of course - but, then again, it’s as close to the real thing as the authorities will allow these days - and it looks and sounds good. Set out around and beneath a sort of huge mushroom made from a parachute, the side nearest to the main bar is laid out like a civilized country restaurant, with tables tastefully set out around that part of the garden.

Opposite is the stage from which the band conjure their magic at a perfect volume for the diners. Adjacent to that is the garden bar around which higher cocktail tables and barstools are scattered. From here the volume of the music is higher, which suits those throwing shapes or head-banging in front of the stage.

Above all of this the stately full moon rises ever higher above what look like palm trees with enormous lotus flowers sprouting from their tops, instead of palm fronds. Quite possibly more entertaining than tonight’s ‘official’ full moon parties…
