Fashion Fusion at Atzaro, Ibiza tonightPosted by: admin in Fashion Fusion, atzaro, ibiza, kurru kurruKurru Kurru held a fashion show thing tonight at Atzaro in conjunction with 2 other fashion shops in Ibiza, namely Graffiti and reVOLVER. The north’s great and good and beautiful people turned up in force to watch them recreate the Virgin Atlantic 25th anniversary advert and put on a bit of a fashion show - you know, the one with Frankie Goes to Hollywood and the red-dressed stewardesses. The funny part is that one of the ibizaA-Z team had a starring role in the video - cant wait to see it… For ten years Barbary Press has been trawling Ibiza’s waters for sunken treasure - rare old photographs and woodcuts, forgotten manuscripts, a celebration of birdlife, and very soon a guide to the island’s heritage. To mark the anniversary Ibiza NOW went to see publisher Martin Davies, armed with a few questions about the venture that has touched readers all the way from Algeciras to Aberdeen.
Ibiza NOW: Let’s talk about publishing, Martin. How did it all begin? Ibiza NOW: So you offered to help? Ibiza NOW: An anthology. Ibiza NOW: So it was published under the Barbary name? Ibiza NOW: But hardly what ‘Barbary’ conjures up. Ibiza NOW: Fascinating! Ibiza is a real Barbary outpost. Going further afield, haven’t I heard it used in connection with San Francisco? Ibiza NOW: When did you decide on the new name? Finding special pictures meant a wider trawl as the local sources had been covered. My previous job at the V&A’s National Art Library also helped. The quality of the material was extraordinary: piping shepherds, goats with huge bells round their necks, a farmer making a bread oven. The reception was as good as A Hundred Years, and it sold out as quickly. As for the name, I was looking for a ‘B/P’ alliteration, something that went well with the word ‘press’ and while toying with ‘Barbary fig’ my sister-in-law suggested leaving out ‘fig’.
Ibiza NOW: So is a picture, literally, ‘worth a thousand words’? Ibiza NOW: For example? Ibiza NOW: Tell me about the smaller publications. What moved you to do them?
Ibiza NOW: … happy accident. Ibiza NOW: Do you speak Norwegian? Ibiza NOW: The Times Literary Supplement also gave the translation full marks. Ibiza NOW: An occupational hazard. Mouth-watering pictures - I’ve seen the book. You still haven’t answered my question: is San Vicente worth two books? Ibiza NOW: How did you come across the second memoir, A Valley Wide? Amy was special, a gifted writer. Thanks to her upbringing in 1920s Shropshire she understood the rural world better than most, while her command of language allowed her to fix details in a timeless way. Her daughter, Laura, came over for the launch, and was able to let the author know how well the book was being received, both versions. The Spanish translator, Eva María Ríos Castillo, did a first-class job. Amy died in March 2009, just four months after the book was launched, having waited forty-five years to see it in print.
Ibiza NOW: What about future projects? Ibiza NOW: And the children’s book? Ibiza NOW: Have we left anyone out? Ibiza NOW: Thanks Martin for providing an overview of your unique operation. Click on links to buy them from our online shop we dont normally do this but we have been gobsmacked by this video of a band we have tried to get over here to play
Playa den Bossa is one area in particular that seems to be experiencing a mighty rebirth, with a number of new venues opening its doors to a switched on public, perhaps a sign that it’s truly time for something different. And so, with all these changes, comes a brand new club right in the heart of Playa den Bossa, a club that will open its doors this Tuesday 30th June. It’s name LE MASQUE it’s aim - to inject a healthy dose of glamour and good taste back into Bossa. With overtones of a diverse series of events powered by a DJ line up thats nothing if not diverse and undertones of high quality clubbing at reasonable prices, LE MASQUE is set to make its mark as the new force to be reckoned with in Ibiza 2009. The club opens this Tuesday 30th June and in keeping with the theme, the Grand Opening will take the form of a Masquerade Ball. Prepare to be gracefully thrown around the timber sprung dancefloor to the sound of legendary DJ Seb Fontaine and Mr Hot to Trot Alex Gaudino. They’ll be joined by island DJ brothers David Moreno and Toni Moreno, not to mention singing sensation Shena, making LE MASQUE’s Opening party a truly internationally musical affair.

Robbie Rivera and Privilege Ibiza support dance4lifePosted by: admin in Privilege, dance4life, ibiza
This summer every Tuesday, starting July 14th, Robbie Rivera is hosting his legendary Juicy Ibiza nights at the world’s biggest club: Privilege Ibiza. As dance4life supporters, Privilege and Robbie decided to join forces and donate 1 euro per ticket to dance4life. These funds will go to the further development of the dance4life schools project in Ibiza and the mainland of Spain. I was working for Sony Music Europe and a good friend there was looking after the Michael Jackson European tour in 1997 and she let me have a photo pass for his Wembley Stadium gig. I have never experienced a crowd like it. His impact on music is in the same league as Elvis Presley and The Beatles - its unlikely there will be anyone else with such influence on music. The fashion event of the summer to be held on Monday 29th June at Atzaro Agrotourismo. A joint spectacular show combining three of Ibiza’s most coveted fashion stores. KURRU KURRU
Each store will be showcasing their summer 2009 wardrobes in a dazzling display, mixing theatre with fashion. Pieces available to buy on the night in the FASHION FUSION boudoir. The event starts at 9pm until late Associate partners include: SUSHI POINT, SMACK MAKE UP and ICON IBIZA

Friendly Fires at Ibiza Rocks tonight - the initial photos.Posted by: admin in Friendly Fires, ibiza rocks 2009It was a great night -everything seemed to go really well, the sound, the crowd, it was a really great Ibiza Rocks night. Tommy Sparks band were a really pleasant surprise from what we’d heard online and set up the Friendly Fires perfectly. We’d heard Friendly Fires being interviewed by nme radio online direct from Ibiza earlier in the evening and given Mike Skinner last year asking everyone to jump in the pool (and who did) - it was no surprise that they said they had been asked not to encourage everyone to “jump in the pool” during their single of the same name. But it was a great night and enjoyed by everyone. Afterwards we went down to Bar M for the initial pre-eden “reclaim the dance floor” party and then off to Eden for the Pendulum set and others - hence the late hour of the photos this morning: We have a ton more photos we will put up but in the meantime we’ve culled it down to these.
