san jordi marketA flea market here on Ibiza? When the first rastrillo took place in the San Jordi hippodrome more than a decade ago, many people wondered whether people on Ibiza would go for the idea of buying secondhand goods.

The islanders on Ibiza had only just started to immerse themselves in the whole consumerist ethos, so buying second hand stuff seemed a big dodgy, somehow. Even though flea markets were already a fixture in many European cities, the phenomenon was totally unheard-of on Ibiza. When people and stallholders initially failed to turn out in droves, no one was surprised.

But today, if you feel like spending a sunny winter day scouring the stalls at San Jordi market, brace yourself: you’re going to need at least twenty minutes just to find a parking spot!
