Kevin Sharkey exhibition in Santa Eulalia, IbizaPosted by: admin in Kevin Sharkey, art exhibition, santa eulaliaKevin Sharkey, the legendary Irish artist, has another exhibition again in Ibiza, this time with two complete collections, consisting of two dozen new and vibrant paintings, full of energy that characterizes all his work. “The Namibia Collection” and “White lines” can be seen at the elegant Nambia cafe in Santa Eulalia, from Thursday, July 10 until late August. Following the success of his 2007 exhibition at the Chamber Ebusus of Ibiza, Sharkey, who has been described as-”the first superstar of art in Ireland” (Hot Press Magazine) shows two impressive collections that have been painted entirely in his study San Mateo and who are inspired by the light and energy of Ibiza. The acclaimed and internationally recognized painter is one of the most quoted Irish artists and who has succeeded in selling one hundred percent of the works in his exhibitions in London, Dublin, New York and Mexico. This is the first art exhibition that takes place in the cafe lounge Namibia, the new and elegant art cafe-restaurant in Santa Eulalia, located on the promenade, opposite the sea and by the fountain. This week Los Fabulosos is proud to present special guest Lewis “Smokey” Robinson of Nascente Recordings, who will be serving up a red hot selection of Brazilian bangers straight from the favelas of Rio, next to Los Fabulosos resident K.C. Baxter. And after last week’s venue change we are pleased to announce we are back in our proper home – Somni in Figueretes – under the Hotel Ibiza Playa, on the Passeig de ses Pituses.

Photos and review on tonights Ibiza Rocks gigPosted by: admin in Metronomy, hungover stuntmen, ibiza rocks, one night only, underground heroesTonight saw the second in this year’s summer Tuesday night sequence of Ibiza Rocks and, as a total contrast, we were treated to a gig at the Electric Bar’ deep inside the new Ibiza Rocks hotel. I never went to Liverpool’s Cavern’, but I imagine it would have been something like this. A few more bobs and kipper ties no doubt, but low ceilings, strip lighting and a sweaty, expectant crowd. In fact nothing like last week’s outdoor gig at the horse trotting stadium, nor probably next week’s too… It’s part of the beauty of the mystery tour’ concept. Like the hill parties of yore, the whereabouts of which were spirited to subversive music lovers by word of mouth. Early morning liaisons in the car parks of remote country pubs led to wild processions of headlights high up into the hills on rough caminos, to find themselves blocked in for days till everyone sobered up and went home. Nowadays the laws are a bit tighter, and there are far more Guardia protecting the vested interests’ interests, so keeping the gig in-house’ could be construed as a favour to society – except that Ibiza Rocks lay on coaches to their parties… On the other hand, the mystery tour also lends itself nicely to the option of selecting venues according to ticket sales. We digress, with the ceiling only a matter of inches above the heads of the headline band, ‘One Night Only’, the atmosphere was sweaty and the young audience were heaving. Up front the occasional air borne beer increased the humidity, but didn’t dampen the atmosphere. Suitably inspired, as they hammered out Started a Fire’, their 2008 hit single, the lead singer leapt onto the drum kit and smacked his head against the ceiling. Nobody laughed, they were all too busy singing along – after all it was only midnight and the party was set to finish at 5 in the morning… Click on images for larger versions – another great night for live music…
We had a great time down at the ibiza rocks hotel with the Underground Heroes, Hungover Stuntment, Metronomy and One Night Only – currently doing the pics as we type but we got a hint that the Enemy would be playing but were told that we couldn’t say anything – we’ll leave it for the official version then it may seem easy but having 4 bands on the same stage in the same night is not as easy as it sounds kudos to the crew - hungovers played a great set and metronomy are on next |
