FigueretasBecause it is so close to the town, Figueretas beach attracts a varied but mainly young crowd, and because some of the nearby hotels have tailored their holiday packages to attract the gay and lesbian community, it is safe to say that gender equality rules in Figueretas.

The beach is well maintained and the municipality has built an attractive promenade for people to stroll along.

There is also a charming view of the sea, a tiny island off the coast and the endless backdrop of the horizon to admire. Figueretas bay is much more attractive than you would expect, given its urban location, and there are plenty of places to eat out.

FigueretasClaudia owns the Haddock Café by the promenade and for the past ten years has been serving up home-made pizzas and other delicacies for customers to enjoy. Breakfast is served from 8:30 a.m., so it’s a good choice for early birds.

Bistro Magnus (located right next to the fairground) specialises in Swabian German food. Its breakfast menu leaves nothing to be desired: whether they feel like a bowl of muesli, a roll with Nutella or a soft-boiled egg, late risers will be able to pick and choose as they please from 10 a.m. onwards.
Figueretas
Joe the chef satisfies his guests’ hunger with a range of specialities – most of them from Swabia and other regions of Germany – that include traditional dishes such as Spätzle (noodles), Maultaschen (giant ravioli) and Fleischkäse (meat loaf) that are a big hit with the customers. Salted herring is also a great cure for a hangover. They also have a selection of coffees and wines to choose from, or refreshing sangria made with red wine and fresh fruit.

How to get there: Head for the Figueretas district from the roundabout by McDonalds – and then start hunting for a parking space.
