Archive for November, 2007The annual Christmas Fayre, organised by the English-Speaking Church on Ibiza, takes place on Saturday December 8th between 11 am and 3 pm. As in previous years it will take place on the Santa Eularia promenade outside the Pier 1 restaurant, which is below the Cruz del Sur apartment block in front of the beach. With stalls offering toys, books, CDs, videos, jewellery and much more, this is your opportunity to kick-start that Christmas ‘goodwill to all men’ spirit by finishing off the Christmas shopping… Contributions of home produce and raffle prizes are still being sought by the organisers, who can be contacted through the Church Chaplaincy on 971 34 33 83. There’ll be an article in Decembers Ibiza NOW magazine about this. We were intrigued when it was put forward to appear in the magazine so we checked it out. Its unlikely you’ll ever heard of it for a number of reasons. Briefly put, its never appeared on British Television but half of Germany have been watching it every New Years Eve since 1972…. in its original english language version… We like Slate magazines take on it here: “A New Years tradition only the Germans could Dream Up”
Ricardo Albin announced that in April of next year the five cameras should be already operational and, depending on the results, will consider extending “such measures” to other parts of the municipality. However there is considerable debate as to whether CCTV actually works – This Is London article. Unlike the UK however, the installation of CCTV is tightly controlled which is why its taken Ibiza Town council since 2006 to get permission to install the cameras so thankfully don’t expect UK style coverage any time soon. We’ve been meaning to go and see SD Eivissa after they got promoted to Segunda “B”, so this afternoon we went off to the Can Missus stadium for some sunday afternoon footy. The blog wouldnt be complete though without tonights obligatory sunset – from the stands at the footy: Sadly they got beaten 2-1 but we had roast lamb on slow cook for when we got back so it was good footy and sunday lunch day…
