New combined ibiza google map added

May 25th, 2007

We’ve been hard at work to create a single page with all the google maps we’ve done so far. Now you can pick and choose what to display on the same map. Petrol stations, phone boxes, bus stops, beaches, towns etc. When you click on a town name for example, it automatically zooms to show all the markers for that town. There’s still loads to be added… Click on the image or here for the new page.

Guarana Summer Opening party, Ibiza

May 21st, 2007

Last night (Sunday) saw the Summer Opening party at Guarana in Santa Eulalia, which is a moment roundly celebrated not only by the club itself, because from now they’re open every night till sunrise, but also by the thrill starved locals, celebrating the return of hot days and skimpy clothing, who have to wait another couple of weeks for the opening of the rest of the big clubs on the island.

As if in synch with the mood, the sea today was hurling waves onto the beach building towards the crescendo of the party, after many days of flat calm.

Guarana Summer Opening party, Ibiza

Our correspondent failed to catch the free champagne for the early birds, but did catch the set from “The Lost Mountain Orchestra” with their unusual mix of country and classical, performed on violin, double bass and two guitars (they’ve come from nowhere to become the most in-demand local band almost overnight!).

Guarana Summer Opening party, IbizaThis was followed by the Brazilian band ‘Ricardito’ as the assembled crowd of fun starved punters prepared for a long night in a chaotic venue spilling out beyond the terrace into the road outside. Guarana Summer Opening party, IbizaDj’s Jose Maria Ramon and Thomas Hedberg kept the assembled bootie swinging till daylight and thus the scene was set – welcome to another summer on the eternal party island, from a venue that recognizes that the way forward involves dance and live music being able to work alongside each other…

Ibiza ‘Noche del Arte’ starts in June

May 16th, 2007

The first event in the ‘Noche del Arte’ series is on June 8.

Gabriele Laurenz’ dressThe theme of the first Noche is “Catwalk” and refers to the highlight of the evening – a display of wearable art which should make for a fancy happening. A number of artists, designers and fashion apprentices will send their creations for this evening on the catwalk.

To mention some names: Aida Miró, Daniela Schwalm, Gabriele Laurenz, Isaak Miralta, Jaume Marí, Karin Mattigat, Mora, Petra Reimers, Sola, Ylva and some of the pupils of the Escuela de Artes y Oficios. The materials used will certainly exceed the usual: metal, plastic, vegetal cuttings, nettings, tape …

Apart from the highlights, there will be the stalls of about 40 artists displaying their work, among them many new faces, of course DJ Laurent will tune in the event with his choice of ambience music. The picture is of Gabriele Laurenz’ dress made from rubbish bags taken at a previous performance at the Noche (the dress will be on display again – the others, naturally, are still in the making).

Another visual event is to be anounced: At Km5 a “Semana del Arte” will take place from June 12 – 17. A number of visual artists (27 to be exact) will turn the lounge bar into a showroom for sculptures and paintings. The opening is on June 12 at 9 pm.

Ibiza airport to San Antonio in 5 minutes via the new tunnel

May 16th, 2007

We had another airport run to do yesterday so we thought we’d investigate the brand new tunnel on the Ibiza to San Antonio road at San Rafael. For a year everyone has had to turn off the main 2 lane road and go through San Rafael village. The journey only took 20 minutes from the airport to the egg – but weve speeded it up so it only takes you 5 minutes – we wish!

We also tracked the actual route the car took, you can see the new road just outside the airport and new roundabouts on the ibiza – san an road and of course the route the new tunnel at San Rafael takes. Google map of the route:
