IMS will also hear from legendary producer Robin Millar, responsible for 44 number one hits, who will talk about why just one month after he retired from production duties, electronic music has re-inspired him, and see the return of 19-year old teen promoter Callum Negus Fancey from Let’s Go Crazy after stealing the show last year by stating “Who is Paul Oakenfold? My audience have never heard of him.” In addition, IMS has teamed up with leading consumer portal Resident Advisor, whose audience will select a topic and speakers for the Presidential Debate format which debuted in 2009 to great acclaim.

Ben Turner, a founder and partner in the IMS, states: “IMS was never about the artists, more the people behind the curtain who help guide the gifted. In 2010, we’ve been overwhelmed by approaches from artists to be involved in some way. It’s a great testament to our first two years. Watch out for more special names to follow…”

Following 2009’s successful experiment The IMS Vote will return, a session where the audience make decisions on the future of the genre. Indeed, last year, 69% of those present agreed that IMS had ‘made them question how their companies work’. In 2010, this is taken one step further then Ted Cohen from TAG Strategic will moderate a one-hour session where the delegates are the audience, and the agenda is not set. Cohen himself was so inspired by IMS:09 that he invited last year’s Key Note speaker Richie Hawtin to attend MidemNet after hearing his radical assessment of future music.

Finally reprising his 2009 role, electronic pioneer Tom Middleton will blog to the Beatport community what is being debated, who will in turn feedback and pose questions to the speakers.

Once again the IMS Grand Finale will take place at the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Dalt Vila on Friday May 28. Last year, Basement Jaxx headlined with Pete Tong, Rob da Bank and Filthy Dukes in support. IMS has been inundated with requests from artists to perform at this landmark event. The headline acts will be announced imminently. The event is free to attend for all delegates of the IMS, with some 2,000 tickets available to the public. Tickets are available now from www.internationalmusicsummit.com

The annual Dia de les Illes Balears, March 1st, is a public holiday to celebrate the 1983 Statute of Autonomy of the Balearic Islands, and every year the ajuntament puts on various events to celebrate it. This year’s events included a charming evening of music and dance at Santa Eularia’s Palau de Congresos, which included a piano recital with local pianist Elvira Ramon and the Spanish tenor Aurelio Gabaldón. This was followed by a recital and dance interpretation based on Federico Garcia Lorca’s verse.

The 403 seat auditorium, run by director Simona Bianchi which is used for concerts, theatre, opera and film screenings is very well-equipped. According to their admin department the entire acoustic control system is located on the roof, where the technical control of the facilities is linked to precise calculation of the acoustics of the halls.

The piano recital was a lovely warm-up to the evening, and tenor Gabaldón performed an eclectic and ambitious selection of songs from Tosti, Mozart, Obradors, Alonso, Serrano, Ramírez, Sorozábal, Gounod, Buononcini and Bellini. My favourite being Gounod’s Ah! Lève-toi soleil from the balcony scene in his Romeo and Juliette.

The main spectacle though was the Lorca event which followed. Dancer Rocío Osuna skilfully interpreted a mixture of cancions, accompanied by soprano Lucia Herranz, channeling the attitudes of Lorca’s sometime collaborator La Argentinita, and as well as through curved lines and rigour all of her own. The highlight of the event was undoubtedly her perfectly tuned exposition of Romance Sonambulo.

The producers also used a projection of images from the poet’s life in between pieces, and the skilled narrator took us through Lorca’s early days, travels to America, his life and work in bohemian circles in Spain and his association with Dali and Bunuel.

Atari launched a new teaser website for the arcade game Test Drive Unlimited 2 (TDU2) today. From the screen shots it looks highly likely it will be set on Ibiza as one shot shows Ibiza Town and another shows the pirate tower that overlooks Es Vedra. The previous game was set on the island of Hawaii. Here’s what wikipedia have to say:

Test Drive Unlimited 2 is the upcoming racing video game developed by Eden Games and published by Atari. It will be a sequel to Test Drive Unlimited and the tenth game in the series. Its development was confirmed on N4G.com in February of 2008.

On 2 December 2008, Atari stated in a press conference that various series, including Test Drive, would be revisited after 2009.

In December 2009, it was found in a CV of a developer that Test Drive High Life is in development.[3] It was later revealed that Test Drive High Life was a internal name to Test Drive Unlimited 2. [4]

On 3 March 2010, Atari Announces Test Drive Unlimited 2.

‘ Test Drive Unlimited 2 puts the world’s most desirable vehicles in the players hands. These ultra-limited edition masterpieces are flawlessly replicated with Eden’s finely tuned driving technology. Players define their online persona through the customization of their vehicles, and the acquisition of property, clothing and all the accoutrements of a luxurious car-based lifestyle. ‘

apneefIn the first event of its kind on the island, the Hostal Boutique Salinas’ “International Christmas Market” had only one mission - to raise much-needed funds for the Association of Children with Special Needs of Ibiza and Formentera: APNEEF.

The total of 781.05 euros donated was raised at the Market’s raffle, which included a multitude of prizes donated by businesses and individuals from the island.

APNEEF president, Carmen Boned, when presented with the cheque at the Plataforma Sociosanitaria on Friday 26th February, acknowledged the “hard work and effort” made by the hotel’s owners, Anita Dey, Dusi Wolfmeir and David Phillips. Thanks were also given to the event’s principal collaborator, Judith Bermudez.

Funds raised, according to Boned, will go towards the purchase of various essential materials for the special needs children within the association. “We never thought we would receive such a large sum,” said Boned, “This is a fortune for us!”

Anita Dey, who represented the Hostal Boutique Salinas on the day of the handover, explained that they were delighted to support APNEEF as it was “a local cause for local children”. She reiterated the intention to repeat the fundraising for APNEEF in the next ‘International Christmas Market’.

Every Thursday in San Antonio here in Ibiza until 25th March, bars and cafe’s are doing a special promotion where you can get a Pincho (aka Pintxa) and a glass of wine or beer for just 2 euros.

A pincho or pintxa (catalan) is a small slice of bread on which an ingredient or mixture of ingredients is put and held there using a stick, which gives the food its name.

They’re called pinchos because many of them have a pincho (Spanish for spike), typically a toothpick, through them. The toothpick is used to keep whatever the snack is made of from falling off the bread it has been attached to, and to keep track of the number of items that the customer has eaten.

So if you end up with 4 toothpicks next to you, you get charged 8 euros…
